4 Step Face Care Routine for Acne Prone Skin

Break outs in your teens are expected but breakouts in your 20’s or 30’s.. no one wants that!

However it’s not uncommon to see with the root cause often being hormonal imbalances, post pill acne, poor diet and stress.

No matter the cause we all want a bulletproof skincare routine for complexion glowing, dewy skin, remove redness & vanish breakouts.

After helping with many women clear their acne I have created a routine that is tried, tested & works and I want to share it with you.

4-Step Glowing Skin Face Care Routine For Acne Prone Skin

1. Shower

We all shower, that is a given but are you showering right for your skin? The constant flow of water and steam opens up and softens the pores on our face, this is great for clearing excess oil & grime and is the perfect primer to cleansing your skin. What you may not know however is that high water temperature and harsh soaps can aggrevate acne, this can make blemishes worse and lengthen healing time. My advice is to wash your body, not your face in the shower and to clease your face straight away after showering to take advantage of the soft, open pores.

2. Cleanse

Milk cleansers are my preferred type, this is because they gently cleanse rather than strip the delicate skin on your face. Your skin actually harbours bacteria and just like your digestive system we do not want to wipe it out every time we cleanse. My advice is gently clean and never strip.

I recommend:

Edible Beauty No. 1 Belle Frais Cleansing Milk

3. Serum

What often gets missed in an acne prone skin care routine is serum. It is so so important that we keep our skin well hydrated and balanced when treating acne. This is because hydration loosens sebum and oils that can clog pores. Hydrated skin can also tame inflammed red breakouts and quickly too!

I recommend:

Edible Beauty No. 3 Exotic Goddess Ageless Serum

4. Moisturise

Running with the theme of hydration we want to include a natural, non-reactive moisturiser into the routine. This helps not only for hydration but also as a barrier against environmental dirt, make up and grim that builds up over the course of a day.

I recommend:

Edible Beauty No. 4 Vanilla Silk Hydrating lotion

Weekly Glowing Skin Maintenance Routine

2 x oil cleanse – using jojoba oil or sea buckthorn oil (balances skin oils)

2 x facemasks – using a hydrating mask (extra hydration)

2 x exfoliation – using a Konjac Sponge (balances skin tone)

Make up matters

Going to the trouble of curating a ten out of ten face care routine needs to be coupled with a make up routine that will actively work towards clearing and calming your skin. Chemist bought make up and even high end make up can damage our skin and cause uneven skin tone, clogging and poor complextion, that is why I always advocate for natural make up products.

My favourite natural brands, based on coverage, range longevity and are:

Ere Perez

Inika

Keeping a strict twice daily routine (morning and night) will increase your chances of acheiving glowing, soft and clear skin. My tip is to turn it into a daily ritual, one you enjoy, look forward to and can relax while doing. Always use natural products on your skin and don’t over do it on the make up, your skin will be glowing in no time!
