5 Best Wholefood Cafes of the Inner West (updated)

The Inner West is dishing up some of the best wholefood cafes in Sydney and here are five you should know about and then make your local.

1. Egg of the Universe, Rozelle

Harry and the team over at EOTU have created the mecca of all wholefood cafes. Nothing around comes close to the quality, unique style of cooking and love that goes into each meal. This may have something to do with the fact that they are connected to a yoga centre; you could be getting some chilled vibes in your breakfast plate from the vinyasa class upstairs. They have a range of breakfast and lunch options alongside one of the most impressive drink menus. You will enjoy EOTU if you have previously tried raw, vegan or fermented foods and loved it or if you are open to trying something a little different on your Sunday morning. I recommend the seasonal breakfast and a green matcha latte on coconut milk after an early morning yoga class.

2. Cornersmith, Marrickville

Cornersmith are known for their delectable house made pickles and preserves so it makes sense you get to sample them at their Marrickville based cafe. They have a wonderfully seasonal breakfast and lunch menu, incorporating locally sourced produce from small scale growers and makers. What also sets Cornersmith apart from the rest is their dedication to educating those that walk through their doors. Cornersmith host workshops and free talks on not just preserving and fermenting but brewing too. I recommend cruising down early to Marrickville to sample their brunch with a side of preserve and leaving with a workshop or two booked for you and a friend.

3. OneAnother, Newtown

A small but spot on menu this Newtown favourite won my heart with their creative and refreshing menu. They may only have list items on menu but each will steal your heart instantly.

And what is better is their menu is updated regularly so you always get to try something new each time you go.

It’s an intimate space and they don’t take reservations so save this spot as a favourite on high rotation with you and a bestie.

4. Warren & Holt, Marrickville

Style, taste, quality. Three words that come to mind when I think of Warren & Holt. They do healthy food with class providing a flawless menu of instagram worthy meals all nutritionally balanced and packed full of flavour. They also have a great drinks menu so if you are not down for a full meal I recommend trying one of their protein smoothies!

5. Bread & Circus, Alexandria

This place has been running strong now for quite some time. They serve up biodynamic bread, eggs and dairy along side organic ingredients where possible. They also branch out and use alternative grains, herbs and spices which is great when you are sick of the same off eggs and bread. Nutritionally dense food, in a vibrant environment with some new taste combinations to keep your taste buds excited for more!

If you are feeling adventurous and want to scout out your own wholefood cafes in another nook of Sydney, there is one key to finding a gem. Quality. If the cafe is passionate about their menu, is willing to talk you through every last ingredient and is using words like ‘grass fed’ and ‘sustainable’ then you are likely to be on a good thing. Wholesome eating and Sydney brunching is a winning mix for any health conscious foodie.
